Running

The Dublin Mountains offer surprisingly good road surfaces for running and cycling. It’s a training ground for those iron men, iron women and general fitness nuts of the city and beyond!

Options for trail running off road are available — remember, however, that stretches of the Dublin Mountains Way are on road, so be safe, be seen, and for trail running wear appropriate footwear!

Kiltipper Park in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains offers a good surface and beautiful views of the city and the Dublin Mountains. The Dublin Mountains Way stretches alongside the River Dodder through the park and meanders around Bohernabreena Reservoir and onwards through the Dublin Mountains, where the terrain and elevation changes. Other park options for running in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains include Tymon Park and Dodder Linear Park.

Options for running within the urban area of the county include many of our parks, in particular Waterstown, Corkagh and Griffeen, and of course a run along the water’s edge along the Grand Canal.

But if it’s endurance you’re after, the Dublin Mountains Way is a 42km test that will make any marathon afterwords seem like a walk in the park!
