Lucan Demesne Park
Lucan Demesne, once the home of Patrick Sarsfield, earl of Lucan and hero of the siege of Limerick, was bought by the State in 1996. The Demesne, beside Lucan village and St Catherine’s Park, which is on the north bank of the Liffey and close to Leixlip, spans over 150 acres and the overall area is managed by Fingal, South Dublin and Kildare County Councils. A pedestrian bridge over the Liffey in Lucan Demesne connects to St Catherine’s Park.
Tranquil walks on the banks of the Liffey can be enjoyed as well as Lucan Demesne being home to seventeen woodland fairies. The 2.5km fairy trail is a free activity for families and parents can use their smartphones to scan the doors and find out more about each fairy who lives there.
The fairy trail was developed by Clondalkin-based company The Irish Fairy Door Company and is the third such trail in South Dublin, with the others being at Corkagh Park and Tymon Park.
There are other amenities such playing fields, playground, BMX track, dog run and picnic tables, and St Catherine’s Park is but a ten-minute walk from the start of the Arthur’s Way Trail.
On the day of your visit you may be lucky enough to witness a canoeing or kayaking event at the Sluice Weir or, in September, the majestic Liffey Descent!
Stepping into The Lucan Demesne Park allows you to bask in nature, history, heritage, water, wildlife and feel at peace!
