Guided tours in Brú Chrónáin, Round Tower Visitor Centre
Tours at 6pm and 7pm with a choice of indoor exhibition tours and outdoor monastic garden tours.
Indoors you can choose between a self-guided option or a guided tour with a friendly volunteer tour guide. Walking through the indoor exhibition, you will learn about the thriving 7th century monastery of St Crónán Mochua which later incorporated what is generally regarded as the oldest and best preserved Round Tower in Ireland. Learn about the Viking raids on the monastery in the 9th century and how Clondalkin subsequently became a Norse stronghold. You can also visit the 19th century Mill cottages: from gunpowder mills, to linen and flax mills and later the famous Clondalkin Paper Mills, the nearby river Camac provided the water source for many mills in the area over the centuries.
